Two towers compete for your view. The Petronas Twin Towers sell timed tickets for the skybridge and the observation deck, while the KL Tower on its hill costs a fraction of that. One honest point: from the Petronas deck you cannot see the Petronas Towers, from the KL Tower you can. Beyond the skyline there are Aquaria KLCC, the Bird Park, Zoo Negara and several museums and indoor attractions.

Check availability →Good to know: Petronas tickets are for a fixed time slot and can sell out in school holidays, so book ahead and check the closing day. The towers look best from KLCC Park, which is free. Most attractions are air-conditioned – a good afternoon plan when it rains.
Good to know
Entry to the main Temple Cave at the top of the 272 steps is free, so you can go alone: it is about 13 km north of the centre and a commuter train (KTM Komuter) runs from KL Sentral. A tour makes sense for the explanation, the transport and combinations with Ramayana Cave or Kanching Falls. Cover shoulders and knees, and hold on to your food – the macaques take it.
Yes. Tickets are for a fixed time slot and can sell out in school holidays and long weekends. Check the closing day before you plan around it. If you want the towers in your photo, go up the KL Tower instead – you cannot see the Petronas Towers from inside them.
Genting is the shortest, about an hour each way, and mostly cable car and theme parks. Malacca is about two hours each way and has a UNESCO old town. Cameron Highlands is about three hours each way, which makes most tours 12 hours long; with only one day, Malacca is the safer choice.
Within the city, the LRT, MRT and Grab are cheap and fine, but traffic is heavy and the sights are spread out. A half-day tour with a car and a guide saves time; for the outlying places (Batu Caves excepted) a tour saves the logistics. You do not need a rental car for the sights in this listing.
Light clothing, but carry something that covers shoulders and knees for mosques and temples. It is hot and humid all year, and afternoon thunderstorms are common, so schedule outdoor sights for the morning. During Ramadan some places change their hours.
The airport is about 55 km south. The KLIA Ekspres train reaches KL Sentral in roughly half an hour; a private transfer or Grab goes door to door and is easier late at night or with luggage. Low-cost airlines usually use klia2, so check your terminal.
